I am not an Otaku... I just consider myself as someone who appreciates stuff from Asia. The word "Otaku" for me has no sense and I even know that said word in Japan has a stigma and negative connotation, especially because of the infamous Tsutomu Miyazaki, known as the "Otaku Murderer" (or the "Child Murderer" before some VHS were found in his room during the investigation of his crimes in 1989) and it does not mean an "anime/manga fan" but an enthusiast of a given hobby (it may include anime or manga, but there is more... there can have a train otaku, or a gun otaku, to cite a few) which is usually uber-obsessed with their hobby.
